Two Fridays ago I was rushing Miriam through her supper. I was trying to have her dinner finished by the time Paul got home so I could go over to my friend, Patty's, for her annual slumber party (but, no one actually spends the night). I'm trying to feed her something...I think grits, and she says, "Self" over and over again. It took me a second to realize that she was saying that she wanted to do it herself, feed herself. It was pretty exciting because it was a word I had not taught or quizzed her on as some might say. So, I let her feed herself.
That is what I try to do to encourage her to use her words. If she can say it and it's within reason, she gets it. That is why I always have cookies...she can say "cookie" really well. :)
"Self" was really cute for a few days. I told a few people the story because I was proud she had figured out that word herself. Well after about 10 days, "Self" is getting really old. She now wants to do almost everything her "self"...brush her teeth, buckle her carseat, put on shoes, cook her breakfast, change the channel. The list goes on and I'm in too much of a hurry most times to let "self" help.
We leave for Florida tomorrow for a family vacation with all of Paul's family! We are all really excited, me, Paul and "Self"
