Paul took Monday off to recuperate from the Florida trip. It was also Miriam's 19 month old birthday! He joined us for our Monday morning Kindermusik class. Miriam loved having her daddy there. Paul took a lot of video, but I haven't figured out how to upload it on the blog yet.
Afterwards, we drove through Southside and on a whim decided to visit Vulcan. For out of towners, Vulcan is this HUGE steel statue that was introduced at the 1904 Worlds Fair in St. Louis to represent Birmingham's steel industry. It has been renovated in the last few years and neither of us had driven up to the top of the mountain to see it in years. So, we bought our tickets and off we went. The BEST part of the Vulcan trip is that Paul really conquered (or worked on) his fear of heights. There is a glass elevator that takes you to the top. Miriam and I rode up and waited for walk up the stairs. The video of Paul with one foot on the walkway and one foot on cement ground of the staircase is PRICELESS. Again, I wished I could figure out the video. Paul finally stepped off and walked around at the top with us...the whole time telling us, "No talking." He just wanted to make it around once and HE DID. He even took the elevator down with us. It was so much fun!

We tried to make it to eat at Jackson's in Soho before Miriam fell asleep, but we didn't. She slept on my lap through 1/2 the meal (which was actually easier), but woke up as soon as we told her there was Sprite and a hot dog for her.
We came home and Miriam and I played while Paul took our cars to be washed. Such a BIG help because taking her to the Car Wash is not the most fun.
After her nap, we ate out AGAIN (thank Paul! ) at La Brisa, one of our favorite Mexican places. Miriam was telling all the waitresses, "Hola!" and "Grasas" (gracias)...everyone was impressed. But, I think it got a bit old for the waitresses after about the 50th time. She loved the decor and wanted to 'touch it' and 'reach' all the suns and lizards on the walls.
It was a great day! We both love it when daddy can take off work!
Good for Paul. Jack and I didn't realize we were afraid of heights until we went to Vulcan.... that place is scary ;o)
