A Julie Andrews Sunday

What a wonderful Sunday! We didn't go to church (sorry Momma!) because Miriam had a bit of a cough and I knew the nursery wouldn't take her...and I've learned my lesson about trying to take her into mass. Paul had to go into work, so Miriam and I were on our own for most of the day. I started by trying out finger painting. Steph had bought Miri 3 little Disney finger paints and my good friends, Heather and Kathy, had suggested that art was a good outlet for Miriam's energy. My personality...I put her in an outfit that was all ready too small and strategically made sure that the colors (pink, orange and yellow) were in her outfit so that if she spilled it everywhere it wouldn't matter anyway. I took her outside, laid out towels and newspaper and we tried to paint. It lasted less than 2 minutes. She immediately had to eat the paint on her hands...I yelled, she cried...it was a mess both literally and figuratively. We colored instead. Until she started eating the crayons and then art therapy was over.

Afterward we played puppet show for a while, but eventually ended up in my room watching, "Mary Poppins." I had been meaning for her watch it because I sing "Let's Go Fly a Kite" all the time to her when we are doing our flash cards and "K" for "kite" comes up. She really liked it and I just loved that Julie Andrews was a part of our day. I really listened to the words before "Spoonful of Sugar": "For every job that must be done there is an element of fun. You find the fun and SNAP the job is a game." I'm going to remember that the next time I'm sweeping the den floor for the third time in one day. I'm going to find the fun. We all should.

For dinner, we conned Paul into going to Yuki's Japanese steakhouse. I LOVE it, he's not much of a fan. Miriam is a welcome customer there. She's had her picture taken by the owner's daughter for a photography class...she got an "A". There weren't many customers, so they did Hibachi for one, but we had fun with our 3 person family. Paul tolerated it and knew he banked some points for going.

We took a stroll around our block with Miriam in her wagon. She stopped at the kids on the trampoline and yelled, "HOP! HOP!" All the kids said, "Awwww!" Before her bath she decided to play plumber. Paul let me get a shot of it before he got too grossed out.
She's something else! I'm looking forward to beginning another week with her!

  1. At this point, I sure hope comments are welcome over here, because I am commenting up a storm. And I never comment on blogs because I'm pretty much just lazy and far too talkative once I get started. Ya think?

Your family is so beautiful, I think I'm going to faint. Your husband? I'm not the least bit surprised. So handsome. No kidding.

So, you have to tell me, is your blog strictly for family, or can I share it with some, uh, people? In lieu of commenting, I usually just share posts with my readers, which I keep almost doing and then remember that you might not want any traffic.

Restraining myself from sharing Miriam's plumbing skills...
