Today after Mass, traffic was pretty thick to get out of the parking lot. Miriam was being especially cheerful in her carseat. Probably because she saw Father and baby Jesus and Mary (the statue) all in the past 10 minutes...three of her favorite things.
I was having a special moment as we listened to "We are One Body" (I've blogged on this song before) and thought about the backyard picnic I had planned for us. I looked back at my favorite girl and saw a spider, a good sized one, crawling at the top of Miriam's carseat. Right. By. Her. Head.
Instinctly, I put the car in park, unlatched my seat belt, and reached to her carseat. I killed that medium sized spider with my bare hands. No thinking, no tissue, no wincing...Just my hands. Miriam didn't notice a thing. She probably thought I was just playing with her. I wiped the spider on a Wendy's napkin that was in the car, used my antibacterial gel, and didn't give it another thought.
I'm a real mom now. I've killed for my young :)
