Patriotism

We are FULL of the American Spirit around here. Miri has a school program in 2 weeks that is about "Patriotism"...they've been preparing for it since Christmas. I know this because I've heard every rendition of "Yankee Doodle" that a creative 4 year old can come with. My current favorite is "stuck a feather in his cap and changed his name to Tony". "Tony" is in reference to The Shining...thank you, Paul for teaching her to creep me out by mentioning her imaginary friend "Tony".

Not exactly sure WHY they are having a Patriotic program at the end of March...no American based holidays that I am aware of around that time. But, I do know that this girl LOVES to sing LOUDLY about how grand our flag is. Given her show-stopping performance in the last 3K production, I've invited every family member I know. This is something you will have to see in person...a video just won't suffice.

This morning in a rush to get shoes on and out the door, Miriam stopped me with the pitiful statement, "I wish I lived where Caillou lives." Caillou is a hairless French-Canadian cartoon boy with extremely patient parents, the most annoyingly nasal voice and a very diverse group of buddies. I explain to Miriam that she doesn't want to live in Canada, "It's not America, Baby. They have different rules and you can't go to the doctor...it's a nice place to visit to see where Anne of Green Gables lived, but it's really different from America and I'm sure you wouldn't like it there." Not the most thought out response, but when you are late for the judgemental Catholic school carpool line, stuff just flies out of your mouth. Miriam, very concerned upon hearing that Canada was different than us, "You mean they don't have a Target?"

I explained the do have a Target...but that Caillou pronounces it "Tar-Shay" b/c he is really French.

God Bless America!
